Sheng, who grew up in Ledong Li Autonomous County in Hainan, has been a senior engine driver since 1989. From steam and diesel locomotives to the high-speed trains currently used, he has witnessed the development of China's railways systemfrom the Sanya-Basuo Railway, one of the oldest railways in China, to the Guangdong-Hainan Railway, the first cross-sea railway in China, to the Hainan Island-looping High Speed Railway that opened in Dec 2015.

Thirty years ago, the 16-year-old Sheng succeeded the job of his father's and took part in railway work. At the Basuo Locomotive Deport of Hainan Railway Bureau, he drove the steam locomotive his father had once driven.

"When compared with the locomotives that I used to drive, it's really a pleasure to drive the high-speed trains nowadays," Sheng said, adding he felt very proud to drive trains on the land of Hainan.

The multiple train generations have carried the careers and dreams of the railway workers, and the high-speed railway trains today also contain the expectations of the eight million people in Hainan.
