Hainan province hosted a special conference on June 26 to honor professionals in science and technology who have made outstanding contributions to advances in their own fields, as well as to the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Zone and Free Trade Port with Chinese characteristics.
The Hainan Science and Technology Award Conference was attended by Liu Cigui, secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, Shen Xiaoming, governor of Hainan, and Mao Wanchun, chairman of the Hainan Provincial Committee of the CPPCC.

Liu said he hoped that the science and technology workers will shoulder the important mission of promoting historical development with scientific and technological progress; give full play to the key role that scientific and technological innovation as well as the transformation of achievements has in promoting Hainan's economic and social development; actively develop industries such as the new generation of information technology and the digital economy; and contribute their great ideas to the exploration and construction of a free trade port with Chinese characteristics.
Governor Shen Xiaoming called on government departments at all levels in Hainan and the sci-tech workers to seize opportunities in Hainan and carry out the innovation-driven development strategy to make technological innovation a driving force for Hainan's social and economic growth. Shen urged them to highlight key areas, build high-tech centers for technological innovation in special fields, as well as promote the integration and mutual development in the fields of deep sea technology, aerospace, medical health, and new energy vehicles.
The conference saw the awarding of a first prize in natural science, a first prize in technology and invention, a first prize for science and technology advancement, as well as second and third prizes in these areas.
