Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone is proactively building itself into an open center for medical and healthcare industries, as the four industrial clusters covering stem cells clinical research, tumor treatment, medical cosmetology, as well as anti-aging and assisted reproduction gradually take shape.

The pilot zone is the first of its kind in China centering on international medical and tourism services, low-carbon communities, and international organization clusters.

As of now, it has accepted 71 investment projects, passed 38 medical technology assessments, and broke ground on 16 projects.

In 2018, the medical institutions in the zone realized a combined operation income of 365 million yuan ($53.1 million), up 227 percent year-on-year. The number of visits reached about 32,000, a year-on-year increase of 69.1 percent.

More than 100 projects are expected to have settled in the pilot zone by 2030, creating 41,000 jobs and contributing between 33 to 50 billion yuan to the local GDP.
