South China's Hainan province rolled out a series of policies covering fund establishments, talent introduction, preferential tax measures, and simplified government reviews to support the e-sports industry during the 2019 Global E-sports Summit.

The summit was simultaneously held with the Tencent E-sports Annual Conference in Boao, Hainan on June 20.

Fu Caixiang, vice governor of Hainan, attended the events and addressed the audience.

By virtue of the events, Hainan will continuously work hand-in-hand with e-sports companies like Tencent to explore new business opportunities, new standards, and new directions for the e-sports industry, as well as focus on building and developing an "International E-Sports Port," according to Fu. She added that Hainan aims to build the e-sports industry into a new engine propelling the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Zone and Free Trade Port.

Guan Chengwu, vice president of Tencent Group, said that e-sports has become an independent industry and is gaining momentum to grow. In his view, the industry is not only a new type of sport, but also a brand-new cultural carrier.

Ren Yuxin, chief operating officer of Tencent Group, also shared his insights on the development of the e-sports industry from the three opportunities of policy support, raising public awareness, and event creation.

"We will make full use of the advantages and resources of Hainan Free Trade Zone and Free Trade Port, striving to explore new breakthroughs in industry incubation, event hosting, talent training, the construction of an industry standard system, and the integration of e-sports content and tourism to build a new industry ecosystem," he said.
