Yawei Stream Wetland Ecological Park in Haikou, Hainan province, is expected to complete construction and open to the public in July.

The park's ecosystem construction started in April and included ecological tree islands, strolling paths, gardens and vegetation planting.

Yawei Stream, with a total length of 2.3 km, used to have black and odorous water as a large amount of unprocessed sanitary sewage was poured in.

Haikou began to completely renovate the water environment in the second half of 2016 and transformed the area into a wetland park with clean water and fresh air.

As the stream has a salinity rate up to 25 percent, about 30,000 mangroves have been chosen to be planted there.
