In the third batch of China (Hainan) Pilot Free Trade Zone institutional innovation cases released by the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee Deep Reform Office (Free Trade Zone Office), the first case incorporated BIM technology in its bidding for the first time.

BIM technology refers to building information modeling technology. It applies 3D animation to make plain architectural drawings into 360-degrees holographic visible building models. Although it is relatively mature in engineering construction and operation, the technology hasn't been used in the bidding process to control cost and shorten construction periods.

The first trial was used on the project of the indoor stadium and swimming pool of Wanning Culture and Sports Square. The bidding control price is 316 million yuan ($45.73 million), with a total building area of 56,496.48 square meters. The BIM technology shortened the bidding evaluation from several days to three hours.

Wang Dahe, a national first-class registered constructor and a senior bid evaluation expert of Hainan's construction engineering, said that BIM technology will make bidding more visualized, digitalized, simulative, and smart.
