Portugal takes crown at intl beach soccer cup in Haikou

The 2019 CFA Belt and Road International Beach Soccer Cup Haikou concluded on April 28 in Haikou with Portugal winning the championship and China finishing third.

The competition expanded its scale and influence this year. The Portuguese team which ranks second in the world, took part, and a women's beach soccer exhibition game was ushered in for the first time.

The competition was well received among citizens, and can be further promoted and developed by combining with Hainan's climate and regional advantages to enrich people's cultural lives, serving as a window to showcase China's image.

China, Portugal, the Czech Republic and England battled it out over three days. Han Yingnan on the Chinese team was named top goalkeeper.

In the game pitting China against the Czech Republic, Liu Yisi, China's captain, scored on an "upside-down hook" kick to take the lead  three minutes after the game started. After the first period, China led 1-0.

In the second period, the Chinese team continued to take the initiative on the field, with a free kick helping the Chinese team extend its lead.

In the third period, the Czech Republic went on a wild comeback, but it was still the Chinese team who scored the first goal. The final score ended up at 3-2 and China earned a hard-fought victory.

After the game, Ramiro Amarelle, the chief coach of Chinese team, said that the China national beach soccer team still has a long way to go.
