The total volume of Hainan's imports and exports reached 24.99 billion yuan ($3.63 billion) with a year-on-year increase of 109.2 percent in the first quarter of 2019, according to a press conference recently held by Haikou customs.
The gross value of exports reached 7.84 billion yuan with an increase of 78.7 percent on a year-on-year basis, 72 percentage points higher than national growth rate. As for imports, it totaled 17.15 billion yuan, up 126.9 percent.
ASEAN continued to be the largest export market of Hainan’s in the first three months this year with an export amount of 2.77 billion yuan, up 133.2 percent compared with the same period last year. The US replaced ASEAN and became Hainan's largest source of imports with a gross value of 6.25 billion yuan. Countries along the Belt and Road traded with Hainan totaling 7.73 billion yuan in the same period.
In addition, the special supervision zone of the customs accelerated the province's opening up efforts and the new type of trade format has developed rapidly. The Haikou Integrated Free Trade Zone imported automobiles worth 76.33 million yuan and 15.14 million yuan in the mode of cross-border e-commerce in the first quarter of 2019.
