Hainan's first basic education reform and innovation experimental school, iSchool, will begin to recruit students this fall. The title was awarded by the provincial education department at a theme activity on April 20.
It was constructed by Hainan Resort Software Community (RSC) with an investment of two billion yuan ($298.1 million) in May last year.
It aimed to solve demands of children's education for medium and high-end industrial talents from home and abroad working in over 3,800 enterprises located in RSC.
It is a privately-operated non-profit international school covering 12 grades of primary, junior high and senior high classes. Only 2,500 students will be enrolled and divided into small classes with 20 to each primary class and 24 to each class at the secondary level.
According to Cao Xiankun, director of the Education Department of Hainan Province, iSchool will act as a pilot program to explore reform and innovation in teaching, educating and attracting talents in Hainan and as an example in domestic basic education development.
Yang Chunzhi, RSC general manager, said that advanced technology such as the internet, big data and AI will be combined with RSC's industrial resource superiority to develop iSchool.
Around 300 headmasters and teachers in Hainan participated in the activity.
The Chinese Society of Education also laid its future educator cultivation base in Hainan during the activity. The public benefit project was sponsored by the Chinese Society of Education and funded by RSC. It is anticipated that the three-year program will train 30 headmasters from around the country, including five from Hainan.
