Baisha looks to become sports powerhouse

National rugby, athletics, modern pentathlon, and rock climbing events will be held in Baisha Li autonomous county, Hainan this year.

Training centers for the events have been set up and are now in operation.

The Baisha Culture and Sports Center, covering an area of 240 mu (16 hectares), was established last September. It has acted as the training center for the 2019 National Women's Boxing Championship to be held from March 6 to 12. The event will bring together more than 300 boxers from over 40 teams, and all top domestic boxers plan to participate.

These State-level competitions are expected to attract sports fans from around the world to Baisha and help promote the integration of sports and tourism.

The local government has increased investment in sports infrastructure and strives to become a respected winter sports training center with high standards and effective methods.

Baisha plans to continue building and perfecting its rugby training center, its athlete village, and a stadium for large-scale competitions in order to enhance its capacity for organizing high-level competitions and to develop its culture and sports industries.

Baisha Li autonomous county is situated in west-central Hainan Island in the middle of Limu Mountain. It covers an area of 2,117.2 square kilometers, is Hainan's core natural area, and has been named a natural oxygen bar.
