Puppet shows are an important tradition in Lingao county, which is known as the "Chinese folk art village". Locals have a strong attachment to this type of drama.
The shows are often the most popular activity among locals during major holidays and traditional festivals. They play drums, sing fisherman's songs in an antiphonal style, and perform dragon and lion dances to celebrate the Lantern Festival.
