The three main railway stations in Hainan province are expected to receive a total of approximately 2.27 million passengers during the Spring Festival travel rush that began on Jan 21 and will end on March 1.

The Haikou Railway Station is expected to receive 220,000 passengers during this period, an average of 5,500 per day.

The Haikou East Railway Station is expected to receive 900,000 travelers throughout the travel rush, while the Sanya Railway Station is expected to receive 1.15 million. Among the travelers, 50,000 are expected to take the general speed railway, while 1.1 million are expected to take the Island of Hainan Railway, amounting to 28,700 riders per day.

According to predictions, the stations in Haikou and Sanya will mainly receive students, migrants and people visiting their homes. Popular destinations include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha and Wuhan.

The travel rush in 2019 will be 10 days earlier than in 2018. Passengers will be more concentrated in Hainan, as many tourists are expected to come due to the island's warm winter. To ease traffic congestion, students and migrant workers will go first, while tourists and people visiting their homes will have to wait their turn. Peak travel times are expected to be from Jan 28 to Feb 4 and between Feb 7 and 19.

To improve the New Year traveling environment, train stations in Haikou and Sanya have fully prepared for the current situation and introduced a series of combative measures.
