Sanya in Hainan province was predicted to be the most popular vacation destination nationwide during the Spring Festival by a big data forecast report released on Jan 9 by Ctrip, a leading domestic online travel service platform.
The report offers tourism figures and rankings for the upcoming Spring Festival, which falls on Feb 4 this year. In addition to Sanya, other popular cities are expected to be Beijing, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Kunming, Lijiang, Harbin, Chengdu, Shanghai and Guilin.
Tickets for flights to Sanya and for harbor-view resorts during the seven-day holiday are already in short supply. Tourism experts encouraged visitors to plan their trips in advance and try to avoid peak travel periods.
Over 400 million people around the nation are expected to go on a tour during the Spring Festival holiday, and more will choose inbound tourism than last year. In the same period in 2018, a total of 386 million tourists generated 475 billion yuan ($ 69.94 billion) in revenue.
