The Hainan provincial government and the Ministry of Education recently agreed to build a natural rubber innovation center at Hainan University.
This marks a significant step forward for Hainan University in promoting world-class research. It will cooperate with the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences and Hainan Rubber Group to carry out multidisciplinary research focusing on the breeding of rubber trees and the development of natural rubber products.
The center is expected to enhance China's technological capabilities in the field and aid in the development of other fields, such as crop science and materials science and engineering.
Tang Chaorong, a professor in the School of Tropical Agriculture and Forestry at Hainan University, will be responsible for running the center. He recently won the 2018 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, making him the first winner since the establishment of Hainan province three decades ago.
