Hainan's sailing contestant Bi Kun won an entry ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics after sailing through the 2018 Sailing World Championships that concluded in Denmark's port city Aarhus on Aug 13.

He won 9th place in the RS:X class regatta and became Hainan's first sailor to win eligibility for the Olympic Games.

The Sailing World Championships, held every four years, is the largest global sailing competition and also a qualification event for the Olympics.

According to Li Feng, coach of the Hainan Sailing Team, Bi is one of the sport's top competitors. He has triumphed at the National Sailing Championships and the Asian Sailing Championships. He came 4th at sailing's world cup in Spain.

Li described Bi as persevering. When Bi knew his weight was higher than the standard, he put himself into strenuous exercise coupled with a low-carb diet.

After the Sailing World Championships, Bi will leave for Jakarta for the 2018 Asian Games sailing competition. Though time is limited for him to rest and adjust, he is still confident he can overcome all obstacles and win gold.
