Hainan is scheduled to commence its 2018 aquatic sports season in Wuzhizhou Island on Aug 4, according to the provincial cultural and sports authority.
Themed on integration of water sports and tourism, the event expects to attract over 10 million Hainan residents and more than 30 million tourists from across the country. Dozens of key events and over 100 interactive activities will be spread over the five months until Dec 31 at eight venues all over Hainan province.
According to the head of the organizing committee, the aquatic sports season targets young tourists and native Hainan people. With a colorful activity planning and advertising campaign, the event strives to build a platform of Hainan sports tourism and elevate the image of the Hainan aquatic sports season within three to five years.
On top of various water sports, the season also boasts a distinctive Hainan rainforest travel experience. In late September, a water sports challenge will be held in Wuzhishan city. During the National Day holiday, a five-challenge competition will be held in the Jianfeng Ridge National Forest Park in which tourists will be offered trekking, camping and a selection of water sports.
