Haikou, an international tourism destination in South China's Hainan province, has been striving to promote its local tourism industry with a promotion event held in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on June 28.

Statistics revealed that Hainan has received around 20,000 Indonesian tourists within the space of less than a year. This follows Hainan United Airline's decision to open a direct flight linking Haikou with the southeastern country in September 2017.

To meet the increasing demand for flights from Indonesia, the airline will add one more direct flight to meet the needs of Indonesian travelers.

Haikou Tourism Development Commission, the organizer of the event, also set up a service center in the country to help its people gain a better understanding of the southern Chinese city and enable them to purchase tourist products.

Approximately 200 participants showed an interest in making a trip to Haikou at the event.

Both sides will expand tourism cooperation in the future and aim to achieve mutually-beneficial development.

Since May 1, the island province has offered greater visa-free access for tourists from 59 countries and regions to Hainan, including major tourist source countries such as Russia, South Korea, and Indonesia. Individuals can stay in Hainan for up to 30 days under the new policy.
