Haikou University of Economics（HUE）is a private university chiefly focusing on undergraduate programs covering fields like economics, management, engineering, literature, arts and education. Founded in 1974 as a college, the school was later transformed into an undergraduate university under the approval of the Ministry of Education in March 2008.

Haikou University of Economics consists of 14 colleges and schools with 40 undergraduate programs, recruiting students from 27 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions nationwide. There are 23,000 full-time students currently enrolled at the university, among which 16,100 are undergraduates.

HUE boasts a high-quality study environment and a beautiful first-rate campus, which covers a land area of 1.1 square kilometers and a total construction area close to 700,000 square meters, and has received more than 2 billion yuan ($311.4 million) in funding.

In order to maintain high teaching standards, HUE has constructed professional experimental and training laboratories. The library, rich in variety, has a collection of more than 1.42 million hard copy books and about 2.05 million electronic books.

Cultural and sports facilities are complete with a gymnasium, swimming pools, concert halls, a stadium, and a qualified development training base. Providing full accommodation and other conveniences, including student dormitories, standard hotels, restaurants, canteens, and supermarkets, HUE is an ideal place to live and study for both domestic and international students.

In the past few years, Haikou University of Economics has made significant progress in academics, especially in innovation and entrepreneurship, and has gained wide social recognition. It has won many academic and honorary titles such as the "National Non-government Funded Advanced Education Collective", and was named one of the "Top 50 Innovative Entrepreneurship Universities Nationwide". From 2004 to 2011, HUE has been rated as an "Outstanding Organization of University Graduates Employment Assessment in Hainan Province", "Provincial Advanced Social Organization", "Provincial Energy Saving Meritorious Organization", "Provincial Garden Campus University", and "Provincial Civilized Organization for 2007-2010". From 2010 to 2012, HUE was at the forefront of universities in Hainan province in terms of graduate employment. In the last three years, HUE has continuously been cited by SINA as a "Top 10 Private University of China with Most Comprehensive Potentialities".

Haikou University of Economics is active in carrying out international educational exchanges and cooperation projects. International cooperation in the fields of teaching and project management provides teachers and students with easy access to various opportunities in foreign universities. Applying to study abroad is easy and convenient due to efficient management. HUE has already established cooperative relationships with universities in Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Australia, the US, the UK, and Canada, providing programs such as short-term language training, one-term student exchanges, and so on.

HUE also has programs allowing foreign students to study in China, which strengthens educational exchange and cooperation with countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, particularly ASEAN countries. The primary means of cooperation are diploma education, short-term projects, and vocational qualification training.
