Sanya OKed for national cultural service demonstration zone

Sanya is Hainan's only city qualified to build a national public cultural service system demonstration zone according to a list recently released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Finance. 

According to the Sanya Culture, Radio, Television, Publication and Sports Bureau, the city has formed a steering group to carry out research on constructing a new public service system of culture and make plans for world-level service facilities and staff with full coverage and high efficiency.

At present, Sanya has more than 40 community cultural activity centers, 18 24-hour self-service libraries, 13 digital cinemas, eight private theaters, five private art galleries, five civilian-run museums, 114 rural libraries and 135 integrated cultural service centers. Moreover, it has over 130 mass cultural groups, 200 art teams, 1,000 amateur literary talents, and 10,000 cultural volunteers.

Next, the city will continue to accelerate the progress of both city-level and district-level public cultural facilities layout. More than 5 billion yuan ($790.8 million) is allocated for construction of international cultural and sports landmarks, cultural centers, a municipal sports center and district-level libraries. Each village and community will receive 20,000 – 100,000 yuan annually from the municipal government based on their population size as a support for daily cultural activities and to enrich people's spiritual and cultural lives.
