The first International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS) collaboration center in Hainan settled down at Sanya's Haitang Bay Shanggong Valley Healthcare Characteristic Town on March 27.

It will lay a solid foundation for Haitang district's medical supporting facilities and promote Hainan's health industry as well as sports medicine to the whole world.

According to the center's director, the new center will enable communication with clinicians, scientific researchers and sports medicine societies in various countries to facilitate study, education and clinical practices as well as enhance people's fitness and athletic abilities at all ages. It will also establish a thorough medical system centered on adult rehabilitation. Experts in professional sports medicine will be invited to offer systematic diagnoses and treatment via traditional Chinese medical means.

Li Guoping, FIMS vice chairman and Asian Federation of Sports Medicine chairman, said that Hainan's location and climate conditions make it a big natural pharmacy. What's more, the city of Sanya has abundant sunshine and clear air. Its new name card of health tourism has become popular at home and abroad. These advantages can attract famous athletes from around the globe to come for rehabilitation training. The utilization of medical resources and talents at the Haitang Bay Shanggong Valley Healthcare Characteristic Town will further integrate traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with modern sports medicine.

The FIMS was established in St. Moritz in the Swiss Confederation in 1928. Physicians from 11 countries founded the "Association Internationale Médico-Sportive" (AIMS) and the name was later changed. Now, FIMS is a structured and well-organized international association, strongly committed to the promotion and development of sports medicine throughout the world. It is home to four continental sports medicine associations and 117 national sports medicine associations worldwide, uniting 125,000 sports physicians. Recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee, FIMS actively links with all relevant international sports and political organizations.

The FIMS collaboration center in Sanya, with an overall floorage of 14,351 sq m, will encompass outpatient services, a physiotherapy zone, a sports therapy zone, a rehabilitation evaluation zone, a physical fitness test zone and operating rooms.
