Haikou Movie Town, a cinematic theme park joint venture by Mission Hills, Chinese director Feng Xiaogang and film producer Huayi Brothers Co Ltd, welcomed more than 2 million tourists last year, generating 100 million yuan in revenue, according to Ye Xiaozhou, general manager for the movie town.

The park includes seven areas with different themes, including 1942 Street and Nanyang Street.

1942 Street, inspired by Feng Xiaogang's film Back to 1942, is lined with buildings typical of architectural styles from Chongqing, Wuhan, Nanjing and Shanghai during the 1930s and 1940s.

Nanyang Street exudes Southeast Asian charm through its restaurants, souvenir shops and street performers typical of the region.

An area called Old Beijing Street is under construction and expected to open later this year.

With a planned size of 93 hectares, the movie town has become one of most popular tourist attractions in northern Hainan Island.
